Food glorious food

So as the name of blog suggests I will be covering all (maybe not all lol) but many of the things I like, dislike and want to try out.

Along with learning to understand my hair and doing events (visit my other blog trueambienceevents.blogspot.co.uk) I also enjoy cooking and eating :-)

So I've decided to incorporate the concoctions I prepare in the kitchen to the blog. I'm actually quite annoyed as I've had a busy cooking week but failed to take any pictures. I've now made a mental note to take pics of the things I do and may even buy a better camera, as I dont think the iPhone. Camera is that great (shopaholic - any excuse will do lol)

So on Tuesday I made some tasty BBQ chicken, well I'd like to say BBQ but I went off on a tangent, it ended up being honey mustard chicken and it was delicious. To make things clear I'm a tasting type of cook/chef, I sometimes use recipes as a skeleton and then veer off and do my own thing until it tastes the way I want it. Tbh this works for me even if I end up putting all sorts of random ingredients in the mix. Anyway back to the chicken I ended up serving it with mash- which I love and a rocket, Parmesan and tomato salad.

Am i ashamed to say I made this meal for one? HELL NO, sometimes in life you need to do things for yourself, that's what I felt for so I went ahead and made it. Greedy but tasty! Lol

But if it means anything I also spent that week baking melt in the middle chocolate cupcakes for the other half - he ate all of them- greedy little pig lol! I also made dark choc chip cookies and white chocolate with cranberry cookies for my colleagues at work - aren't I an angel... I know, i know lol, I'll take pictures next time xxx

Ps: I also made some cornmeal porridge a Caribbean staple and totally delicious- this picture came out quite dark but I thought I'd add it anyway.

Anyway adios - sweet dreams and foodie thoughts x

I love food and food loves me!...

Hey guys, so i'm just gonna go ahead and say it - I love food! i've come to realise a lot of women from different cultures have an issue admitting this, but not me! I guess i could say the same for my closest freinds and family too, my best friend or sister will call me up excited to tell me about the meal they've just had lol (is that normal??)or we'll call each other especially on a Sunday to let each other know what we're cooking that day. I wonder, do other ppl do that, or do I have some form of illness. Regardless I simply love food and that's cooking and eating it. For instance I've just had some lovely oven cooked plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce. It might not look amazing in the picture but I was definitely humming by the end of the meal. I then thought I'd do a bit of baking (don't ask why-when I really should be washing my hair!). Anyway I made some donut muffins and they are yummy lol!

The journey never ends

So as you may have read I was due to go on holiday to Barbados and was having some difficulty in what I should do with my hair. But after spending the day with my sister it really helped. I was having issues with a regime and depended on gel simply because sometimes I didn't know what to do with my hair. So she washed it and deep conditioned it using her all natural amazing products (they will be available for sale very soon). She then twisted with her homemade leave-in, a Shea butter mix and flaxseed gel. Needless to say the results were amazing very defined and moisturised. Guys check out my sisters blog fortheloveofkinks.blogspot

Anyway point is I've realised your natural hair journey never actually ends. I'm still learning about new products and techniques and also understanding how to listen to my hair, it's likes and dislikes. I've just realised my hair prefers butters than
Oils, I still use coconut oil but I use Shea butter first then the coconut oil to seal, my hair needs heavier products to keep it moisturised.

Anyway as for the holiday it was great, I love being in the sun and Barbados has become my second home, great weather, great ppl, great food, what more could I ask for? Whilst out shopping in Bridgetown I also came across a product line called design essentials for natural hair - their natural line is petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin, silicone and paraben free! And the price wasn't too bad I bought the daily moisturising lotion, the moisturising conditioner and the natural curl stretching cream. I'll use them got a few more weeks then do a review but so far I'm quite happy with them.

Hair on the go!

On my way out for drinks for my sisters birthday and needed a quick hairstyle I washed my hair yesterday and twisted it up to let it air dry. I'm still growing out the perm I had put in the front to texlax my hair so I don't usually have a fringe/bangs. So I decided to do a bit of a side sweep kind of thing then had the back out. I then added a flower because it was pretty and I felt like it lol I like it tell me what you think... Ohhh and I did a length check I think I'm at bra length now yay!!!

Holiday hair and outfits?...

So I'm on my way home and planning out my evening I'm still on the lookout for a leave conditioner but until then I'll use my herbal essences hello hydration a try, I'll give you guys the results. I've decided to wear my hair curly for the next few weeks and treat it once a week. I'm going on holiday ( I love travelling) and although I love my natural hair I don't love the time it consumes on my holidays. This time im going to barbados with my partner, i absolutely love it out there and I'm going for a reggae festival which is even better, can't wait! Time is precious when you've only got a few days away so I've decided to straighten it for those 5 days. I'm thinking it should keep at least for 3 days if it goes frizzy I'll just cowash it and rock the fro! So my next challenge is what outfit to wear I've got 2 events a night show so glitz, glam and party and then a day show so shorts, casual but sexy. Hmmmm decisions decisions, the things a girl has to go through...smh, any suggestions that goes for both a leave in conditioner and ideas for an outfit...x

Hair pics

Just a few random pics of my hair in different states, love the versatility x

Am I too old be playing in the mud???

So, I've been wearing my hair straight for the past 3 weeks, the main reason being, I just didn't know what to do with it! Not really the greatest of ideas, my hairs been feeling weird lately, like not her usual self and I couldn't put my finger on what the problem was. So after nearly itching my scalp red raw (my hairs used to weekly washes, 3 weeks was really pushing it) I thought I'd browse YouTube and see if I could come up with some ideas. After watching a few videos I decided to give my hair a pamper day so here's what I did:

A hot oil treatment- applied on dry hair I mixed together olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil and a clove of garlic. Left on for 30 min.

Then washed with my rhassoul clay which I mixed with warm water, hair felt so soft after but I didn't stop there.

I then mixed hair mayo with honey and a bit more rhassoul clay (yes it can also be mixed into your conditioner) and left that on with a plastic cap for 2 hours.

Problem now is i haven't got a leave in or moisturiser i think I've found the issue with my regime. I think thats why my hairs dry, so the quest is to know find a good leave in and moisturiser.

As for the rhassoul clay i love it, i used the remaining clay mix as a mask and washed my body with the rest. Yes for those who don't know rhassoul clay can be used as a cleanser. Ive decided to alternate between my keracare sulfate free shampoo and rhassoul clay for my weekly washes... In the meantime can anyone suggest a god leave in conditioner and moisturiser, by the way I'm allergic to phenoxyethanol which doesn't help so I'm open yo natural recipes too. X
